Lake Tahoe's water clarity is famous for a reason, and the south shore in particular puts you within easy reach of most of the on-the-water options around the lake. Here's what our concierge desk actually books for guests, not just the list every brochure repeats.

Sunset Sailing Cruises

A two-hour sailing cruise departing from a marina a short drive from the resort, timed to catch the same amber light over the water that gives the resort its name. It's the single most requested excursion our concierge desk handles, and it books out fastest on Friday and Saturday evenings in July and August.

Kayaking to Cave Rock

A guided kayak trip along the eastern shoreline toward Cave Rock is a manageable half-day outing even for guests who haven't kayaked before, with calmer water than the open-lake routes near Emerald Bay. Most outfitters run morning departures before the afternoon wind picks up.

Stand-Up Paddleboarding Off the Resort Beach

For guests who'd rather not leave the property, board rental is available a short walk from the pool deck, with the calmest conditions typically in the first two hours after sunrise before the daily wind builds.

Paddlewheel Cruise to Emerald Bay

A longer, more relaxed option than sailing, the paddlewheel boat departs from Zephyr Cove and covers more distance along the shoreline, including a pass by Emerald Bay's Fannette Island. It's a good pick for guests traveling with kids or anyone who'd rather sit back than actively paddle.

Morning departures on any of these consistently have calmer water than afternoon ones — the wind on the lake tends to pick up by early afternoon most summer days.
